What Dailies is
Dailies keeps track of daily puzzles. You play them, text or paste the share text back, and Dailies keeps your streaks, statistics and weekly competitions with friends. Most of those puzzles live on other people’s websites: Dailies links out to them and reads the share text you bring back. It does not host, copy or embed those puzzles.
Those games belong to their publishers, and their names are used here only to identify them. Dailies is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to The New York Times, LinkedIn, The Atlantic, Merriam-Webster or any other outside publisher. Playing one of their games happens on the publisher’s site under its own terms.
A few games are different. Helvetica Labs, Inc. makes some itself, Landmarkr among them, and anyone can create a game on Dailies. Those games can be played inside Dailies and report your result to it directly, with no share text to paste.
Dailies is invite-only while it is growing. A new account lands on a waitlist unless someone with invites left brings you in. You can still text us from the waitlist; the rest of the site opens when you are let in.
Your account
- You must be at least 13 years old to have an account.
- The usual way in is a code texted to your phone. Give a number that is yours. Anything done with that number, or with a sign-in code sent to it, counts as you.
- An email address is optional. If you add one, keep it working: it is how you recover the account if you lose the number, and how we tell you that you are off the waitlist if texts cannot reach you.
- Keep your password and API tokens to yourself. Anything logged with your tokens counts as you. Revoke a token under Settings the moment you suspect it has leaked.
- Your name appears on group standings. Your profile page stays private unless you publish a game, in which case it is public. Use a name you are happy to be seen by. Names or usernames that impersonate someone or are offensive can be changed by us.
- You can stop using Dailies at any time and delete the account under Settings, as described in the privacy policy.
Texts
A lot of Dailies happens in Messages. These are the program terms for every text we send or receive. How we store your number and the messages is in the privacy policy.
What we send. A one-time sign-in code when you ask for one. A single “you’re in” text when you come off the waitlist. Scores, standings and replies in a group thread, once you are in one. A morning text in the group chat with the day’s games, daily or weekly, unless the group turns it off. A reminder you asked us to send. An invite if someone adds you as an editor on a game. These may be sent with automated technology. We do not send advertising or product-news texts, and texts are not a condition of using the site: you can paste scores here with no thread at all.
How you opt in. Asking for a sign-in code, adding or changing a number under Settings, or sending the join text from an invite, is consent to receive the messages above at that number. Joining a group while you have a confirmed number puts you in that group’s chat. The disclosure above the Send code, Text me a code, and Join by text buttons is the same consent, in short.
Frequency. It varies. Typically one code per sign-in request, one waitlist text, then as many messages as the group chat produces. Morning texts are at most one a day, or one on Monday if you pick weekly.
Rates. Message and data rates may apply. Your wireless carrier bills you for them, not us.
STOP, START, HELP. Reply STOP (or UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, QUIT, or “stop texting me”) from that number to cancel. We confirm once, take you out of every thread, and send nothing more to it, including sign-in codes, until you ask. Reply START in your own conversation with us to resume. Reply HELP in that same conversation, or write to info@dailies.world, for help. In a group chat, HELP is a message to the people in it, not a program command.
Group chats. A group thread is a real Messages group. The other people in it see your number and what you write, the same as any group chat they started themselves. Walking out of the chat in Messages takes you out of that thread; STOP stops every Dailies text to that number. Some threads run over iMessage or RCS rather than SMS; the same rules apply.
Wireless carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
Your results and content
The share texts, scores, group names, game definitions and messages you put into Dailies remain yours. You give Helvetica Labs, Inc. permission to store them, parse them, send them in a group thread, and show them to you, to your groups and — if the profile is public — on your profile, as the privacy policy describes, for as long as your account exists. That permission ends when the content or the account is deleted, apart from copies in any backups, which expire in the normal course of things.
Do not put in anything you have no right to share, and do not paste other people’s personal information.
Fair play
Groups only work if a logged result is a real result. Log your own solves, on the day you solved them, once. Do not fabricate share text, edit it to improve a score, or log by hand something you did not play. We may remove results, and in persistent cases accounts, that break this. Group owners can remove members from their own groups for any reason and the invite link will not let them back in.
Acceptable use
Do not:
- Probe, overload or attack the service, or use the API beyond its documented purpose of logging your own results.
- Collect other people’s results or profile data in bulk.
- Use Dailies, its browser extension or its phone app in a way that breaks a game publisher’s terms. The extension only presses the game’s own Share button for you; if a site does not allow that, do not use it there.
- Use group names, game names, usernames or texts to harass, deceive or impersonate.
- Publish games, names or anything else that is objectionable: hateful, sexual, violent, threatening or abusive content. There is no tolerance for it.
- Pump sign-in codes at numbers that are not yours, or use texts to spam anyone.
Reporting and blocking
Every game made by a member and every profile has a Report button, and every profile a Block button. A report reaches us straight away; we review each one within 24 hours and remove content, and the accounts that posted it, when they break these terms. Blocking someone hides their games, scores and profile from you and closes yours to them. You can also write to info@dailies.world.
Games you create
If you add a game to Dailies, you are responsible for it and for the website it runs on: that you have the right to publish it, that it works, and that it treats the people who play it properly. Through the SDK a game may report a player’s result for that game and nothing else. We can remove a game that breaks these terms, does not work, or gets in the way of the service.
Paid plans
Playing and texting are free. Dailies Pro is optional: it raises the number of games you can make. On the web it is billed through Stripe; prices are shown at checkout, and you can cancel any time under Settings. You keep Pro until the end of the period you paid for. Refunds follow whatever the law where you live requires, and otherwise are at our discretion.
Bought in the iPhone app, Dailies Pro is an auto-renewing subscription billed by Apple to your Apple Account. It renews at the price shown in the app for the same period unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the period ends. Manage or cancel it in your iPhone's Settings, under your name → Subscriptions; deleting your Dailies account does not cancel it. Refunds for App Store purchases are handled by Apple. Your use of the app is also subject to Apple's standard licence agreement.
Bought in the Android app, Dailies Pro is an auto-renewing subscription billed by Google Play to your Google Account. It renews at the price shown in the app for the same period until you cancel it. Manage or cancel it in the Play Store app, under Payments & subscriptions; deleting your Dailies account does not cancel it. Refunds for Google Play purchases follow Google Play's refund policies.
The service itself
Dailies is provided as it is. We try to keep it running and to keep your data safe, but we cannot promise it will always be available, that every share format will always be recognised, that a text will always be delivered, or that a streak will never be lost to a bug. Features may change or be withdrawn; if the whole service is going to shut down, we will say so on the site well before, so you can copy out what you want to keep.
To the fullest extent the law allows, Helvetica Labs, Inc. is not liable for any loss arising from your use of Dailies, including lost results, streaks, standings or texts. Nothing in these terms takes away rights the law gives you that cannot be waived.
Suspension
We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, and we will tell you why unless doing so would make an abuse problem worse. You can ask us to reconsider by email.
Changes to these terms
The date at the top shows when these terms last changed. A change that matters to you, such as a new rule or a narrower promise, is announced on the site before it takes effect. Carrying on using Dailies after that means you accept the new version; if you do not, stop using it and delete your account.
